Here’s another stand-out scene from the 2014 reading at the Dank Haus in Chicago featuring the talented Julian Parker.

JulianJulian appears as Karl below along with playwright Evan Linder as Jim.

Julian is a founding member of WPCONVO participant Definition Theatre Company along with Chicago’s Byhalia, Mississippi director Tyrone Phillips. Julian is an accomplished actor of stage and screen, appearing in productions at Writers’ Theatre and the Steppenwolf Garage as well as NBC’s “Chicago PD.”

Julian has been a critical part of this play’s development, from the reading below to the 2015 Leapfest workshop production and as a producer for the world premiere production in Chicago next week!

HairyApe-20-webJulian recently appeared in the hit world premiere production of Phillip Dawkin’s Charm with Northlight Theatre and is starring as Yank in Oracle Theatre’s The Hairy Ape opening January 23rd.


In the following scene, Karl is helping Jim move some things out of his house while attempting to explain his unexpected devotion to Tammy Wynette.




JIM: You and Tammy Wynette. I will never get that.

KARL: Nothing to get Jim. Sometime’s someone just worms their way into your soul and there’s nothing you can do about it-

JIM: Mmm-hmm-

KARL: She gets me.

JIM: Okay. How soon after you started singing did the Shady clear out?

KARL: I have a gift Jim. Even you can’t deny that.  Jeanine Taylor was just the first of many, many fans /of this voice-

JIM: You crack me up Karl-

KARL: This is my instrument. From God. I will use it.
